Maximum Patients Assigned

For any given clinician, CHIME can configure the maximum number of their patients that will be assigned to a room. This means that patients who are checked in will not be assigned to a room if the maximum number of patients for that MD has already been assigned.

We do this to balance demand on a clinic between numerous clinics so that a single clinician doesn’t “overuse” the rooms.

  • Example of how a clinic may be configured: maximum 2 patients per staff MD, maximum 1 patient for residents

This can also be adjusted automatically based on the time of day (e.g. CHIME will adjust from 2 patients per MD to 4 for after hours when there’s typically only one or two clinicians onsite)

Real world problem example: Let’s say a MD is running super behind. If CHIME kept assigning that MD’s patients to rooms, they may end up with 4 or 5 patients just sitting in rooms waiting to be seen, which would in turn be blocking out other MDs and their patients from getting roomed, and therefore causing frustration for both MDs and patients.
