Is CHIME an EMR?
A common question is whether CHIME is an EMR. CHIME is not an EMR and will not, in the foreseeable future, replace the role of an EMR (or HIS system, for hospital users).
So what is the difference?
There are certain key tasks typically associated with EMRs, such as:
storing medical information (e.g. notes, test results)
appointment scheduling
billing
internal communication and assignment of tasks (e.g. messages)
Most EMRs do not directly focus on clinic orchestration though. Think of clinic orchestration as:
coordinating the flow of patients through a clinic
coordinating the real-time collaboration of clinicians and support staff
enabling real-time communication internally
Put in more concrete terms, CHIME gives your clinic an AI that acts as a team of virtual staff for your clinic, interacting with people through dedicated hardware such as tablets, kiosks, and displays:
dispatchers deciding who should go where and when
executive assistants helping staff
patient escorts guiding patients
receptionists checking-in patients
